| Description |
The Berliner Dom is a symbol of Imperial Germany meant to resemble St Peter in Rome (at least according to the Rough Guide). Beside being the highest structure in Western Europe the Fernsehturm (TV tower) is one of Berlin's most famous landmarks and a very useful orientation point. Before the fall of the Wall it was on the Eastern side of the city and it had been conceived as a highly visible symbol of the World of Peace (the GDR, while the Federal Republic of Germany was the World of War). |
