Description

NPS/Patrick Myers While many are tired of winter in late February, it's hopeful to think of this snow melting and forming the natural beach environment of Medano Creek in late spring. Today's snowfall half-covered the dunes, but plastered the mountains above.

March and April are the two snowiest months of the year in Colorado, including Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, which ranges from 7,515 feet to 13,604 feet (2,308m to 4,146m) in elevation. The Visitor Center and campground are at 8,200 feet (2,499m).
