Description

The laying of the foundation stone of the Kursaal (now Royal Hall), Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, on 4 January 1902.

The tall man on the left is Alderman Fortune. To the right of him in costume is the mace bearer, and in front of the mace bearer is Mayor David Simpson (1860–1931). The chain is holding the foundation stone, allowing it to be lowered after the cement is applied.
