English: Photograph of a carving on the ceiling of Le Dehus passage grave half a mile from Bordeaux Harbour in the north of the Channel Island of Guernsey. Although seemingly a crude work when viewed in artificial light from a nearby electric bulb, when taken under natural light conditions from the open door of the tomb with a relatively long exposure, as this photograph was, a more stunning image emerges. One wonders if the human eye, having adjusted to the gloom, could discern this ghostly face looking down at it from the ceiling. Is it truly Neolithic? Finds from Le Dehus during excavation of this passage grave in the early Victorian period date from between 3500 and 2000 BC. The carving was discovered in 1916.
