Description

Le cloître des lauriers et le nouveau dortoir ont été construits par les Buora, ils s'ajoutent au cloître des cyprès achevé en 1561 par Palladio qui a travaillé à l'aménagement du couvent des Bénédictins jusqu'à sa mort.

Le monastère bénédictin situé sur l'île de San Giorgio Maggiore, a été restauré par la fondation Cini qui y est installée. Cette île est en face du palais des Doges.

C'est dans le réfectoire de ce monastère que se trouvait, avant les pillages de Napoléon, le célèbre tableau de Véronèse : "Les noces de Cana", aujourd'hui au Louvre.
