English: Leeds bridge history The Blue Plaque on Leeds Bridge commemorates the filming of Traffic Crossing Leeds Bridge by Louis Le Prince in 1888. He shot the scenes from a second floor window of the building used by Hicks Brothers at 17-19 Bridge End, Leeds.
The film can be see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7saH58usq4 The second plaque commemorates a meeting on these premises in 1847 were the "Band of Hope" Movement was formed. It's title being suggested by the Reverend Jabez Tunnicliffe. The Band of Hope was to teach and impress upon children the importance and principles of sobriety and teetotalism. Set up in an era when hard liquor was generally viewed as a necessity of life, next only to food and water, the Band of Hope and other temperance organisations fought to counteract the influence of pubs and brewers, with the specific intention of rescuing 'unfortunates' whose lives had been blighted by drink and teach complete abstinence.
