Alle tre tegninger er tilsyneladende studier til et maleri af hvilket kun to fragmenter kendes i dag: Madonna med Barnet i en Romersk privatsamling og St Thomas i Umberto Severis samling i Carpi (se: Federico Zeri, ”Lelio Orsi: una ”Madonna col Bambino””, Paragone, 63. 1955, pp. 33-35, pl. 44 og Mario Di Giampaolo and Andrea Muzzi, Il Parmigianino e il Fascino di Parma, udst. kat.. Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe degli Uffizi, 2003, p. 162). Begge fragmenter viser at den malede komposition blev direkte overført fra tegningen i København.
