| Description |
English: Lendal Bridge, Barker and Lendal Towers. Lendal Bridge crosses the River Ouse and was built in 1863. Previously a ferry crossed the river at this point.
Barker Tower 590641, in the foreground, and Lendal Tower 590666, on the far side of the river were built around 1300, originally for defence. They have had a number of uses since then. Both towers would originally have had a huge chain strung between them. This would have prevented any merchant ships from entering the city without paying a toll. |
