Title
Les gondoliers de la Seine
Description
This series of caricatures mocks the steamships that were used for transportation along the river Seine. These ships, which preceded the "bateaux-mouches," were much noisier and produced a lot of black smoke. The caricatures mimic their speed, their smoke, and their unromantic quality (by comparing them, ironically, to Venice's gondolas)
