Title
Letter from Svante Arrhenius to Georg Bredig, February 12, 1905
Description
Svante Arrhenius (1859-1927) writes to Georg Bredig (1868-1944) with updates on the scientific community. Wilhelm Ostwald (1853-1932) is retiring and wants to become a private scholar. Ostwald had semi-retired in 1894, and officially retired from chemistry in 1906. Despite his retirement, Ostwald was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry, made contributions to color science, and studied politics and philosophy. Arrhenius then discusses his work with Thorvald Madsen (1870-1957), whom he is currently researching immunochemistry with. In 1907, Arrhenius would publish Immunochemistry which described the principles of physical chemistry with respect to toxicology. He continues to describe J.H. van't Hoff's laboratory which he calls "modest." He is sure that his new laboratory at the Nobel Institute for Physical Chemistry will be much better.
