Deutsch: 2: Fliegender Holländer. Gleich dem »ewigen Juden« und dem »wilden Jäger« ist van der Decken, einst Führer eines holländischen Schiffes, verdammt, keine Ruhe im Grabe zu finden; fort und fort muss er das ihm zur Last gewordene Menschendasein weiterschleppen. Das ist die Strafe für eine Gotteslästerung, denn er vermass sich, das Kap der guten Hoffnung zu umschiffen und sollte die Fahrt bis zum jüngsten Tage dauern. Heinrich Heine gab der alten Schiffersage eine neue poetische Schlusswendung, indem er den Holländer durch das Opfer eines liebenden Weibes erlösen lässt. Wagner benutzte die Heinesche Dichtung beim Verfassen des Textes seiner Oper. |
