Description
Deutsch: 5: Wotan,
auch Odin genannt, war der oberste Gott aller germanischen Völker. Die gefallenen Helden nahm er zu sich in seinen himmlischen Palast Walhall durch die Walküren, die Schlachtenjungfrauen. Zwei Raben Hugin (Gedanke) und Munin (Gedächtnis) begleiteten ihn; sein Ross Sleipnir, das beste aller Pferde, war achtfüssig. Der als Stammvater der nordischen Königsgeschlechter geltende Wotan spielt in Wagners »Nibelungen« eine Hauptrolle. Das kleinere Bild auf unserm Kärtchen stellt eine Walküre dar, die vor sich auf dem Rosse einen rühmlich getöteten Kämpfer aufwärts trägt.
