Deutsch: Der Vordere Limes bei Öhringen im April 1960. Der hier „Pfahldöbel“ genannte Grenzwall zwischen den Zweiflinger Ortsteilen Pfahlbach und Westernbach ist auf 280 Metern der am besten erhaltene Abschnitt des Limes im Hohenloher Land. English: One of my earliest sightseeing disappointments. I took a train to Öhringen, 21 km (13 miles) east of Heilbronn. I walked some distance out of the town to see a portion of the Limes, the Roman wall that marked the boundary between Roman and barbarian territory. This is what I found - a mound, perhaps three feet (one meter) high. Perhaps it was worn down by rain over 2,000 years. I read that there has been extensive reconstruction of the Limes in Germany in recent years. |
