Title |
Lincoln Park Reservoir, ca. 1905 |
||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
The City purchased the land in 1897 with the cost shared between the Water and Parks departments. The Lincoln Reservoir was completed in 1900 and served as the city's first hydraulic pumping station, sending water to Magnolia, Queen Anne and Volunteer Park. The area was initially called Lincoln Park but the name was changed to Broadway Playfield in 1922 after the city purchased land for a park in West Seattle which was also called Lincoln Park. The playfield renamed once again in 1980 to honor Bobby Morris, a Broadway High School graduate, athlete, coach, playfield director, and professional referee. In 2003 the park was given the name Cal Anderson Park after the state's first openly gay state legislator.
