Description
English: Lion from a funerary monument. Pentelic marble. Confiscated in Markopoulo, Attica. On the integral plinth the lion is represented moving to the right. As guardian of the tomb, he has his head turned forwards, with his mouth open threateningly. The flammiform mane and the abrupt thinning of the raised hind part of the body are characteristic features. Early 4th cent. B.C. Accession Number: 3868. National Archaeological Museum of Athens.
