Distribution of the smooth newt (''Lissotriton vulgaris'')

Summary edit

Description
English: Distribution of the smooth newt (Lissotriton vulgaris) in Eurasia, based on the occurrence data of Wielstra et al. (Amphibia-Reptilia 2018, DOI: 10.1163/15685381-17000128). I estimated alpha hulls around these occurrence points with the function EOO.computing() in the R package ConR v. 1.3 (Dauby et al., Ecology and Evolution 2017, DOI: 10.1002/ece3.3704), with alpha = 1 and buff.alpha = 0.3. Note that some former subspecies in the Balkans, Anatolia and the Caucasus region are now recognised as distinct species. The precise contact zone with the Greek smooth newt (L. graecus) and Schmidtler's smooth newt (L. schmidtleri) on the Balkan peninsula is still unclear.
