English: Lochend - Loch, Doocot and Plague Kiln This beehive doocot was built in the 16th century and probably belonged to Lochend House, which was home of the Logans of Restalrig. The pigeons provided an extra source of fresh food in the winter and it can be estimated that there were over 1000 nest holes. The doocot was built on land once known as Logan Lea. The alternative name, Kilnacre, is believed to date from the mid-17th century when the doocot may have been used as a kiln for burning infected clothing and belongings during the plague of 1645. It was also used as a boathouse by the Royal Humane Society in the 19th Century.
