Description
Deutsch: Beim Eisenbahnbau entstandener Aufschluss eines zuckerkörnigen Lochfels bei Bronnen, nördlicher Stadtteil von Gammertingen, Schwäbische Alb. Ein Lochfels ist ein ungebankter Kalkfelsen (Massenkalk), der durch Anwesenheit von Bioherm-Strukturen (Cyanobakterien-Spongien-mud mounds) zuerst zu Dolomit, CaMg(CO3)2 (CaCO3·MgCO3), wurde. In einem von zwei möglichen weiteren Prozessen kam es sodann wieder zu einer Rekristallisierung, zu Dedolomit-Gestein (Rekalzitisierung, „zuckerkörniger Kalk“). Dieses Gebilde ist ein härteres, verwitterungsresistenteres Gestein, das häufig wegen zahlreicher Hohlräume als Lochfels ausgebildet ist. Man spricht von „zuckerkörnigem“ Aussehen, wenn sich der Aufbau aus feinen Kriställchen ergibt, die weit feinkörniger als der heute übliche Handelszucker sind, aber grobkörniger als Kalksteinkristalle. Auf der Fränkischen Alb ist Lochfels besonders häufig anzutreffen.
