Description
English: Lock gates and Coxbank Bridge, Cheshire. These are the mitre gates at the tail of Audlem Top Lock on the Shropshire Union canal. The fifteen locks in the Audlem flight drop the Shropshire Union Canal by 93 feet (28.4 metres) onto the Cheshire Plain. Coxbank Bridge (No 75) carries the lane allowing Kynsall Farm access to public roads via Coxbank village. The canal, originally called the Birmingham and Liverpool Junction, and engineered by Thomas Telford, was opened in 1835. The distance from Ellesmere Port Junction (with the Manchester Ship Canal) to Autherley Junction near Wolverhampton is 66.5 miles and there are 47 locks.
