Description
English: Goldsmith's grave inventory from Brno-Kotlářská
  • Brno-Kotlářská, District of Brno-město, Czech Republic

This man's grave contained one of the few undisturbed tool sets of an early medieval goldsmith. The close match with the goldsmith's grave of Poysdorf makes certain an attribution to the Lombards, whose renewed presence was documented in written texts beginning in the late 5th century.

Grave goods:
1. Two two-sided hammers.
2. Pyramid-shaped iron anvil.
3. Iron smith's tongs.
4. Rod-shaped iron quavering burin.
5. Sandstone whet stones in various sizes.
6. Remnants of a bronze balance scale.
7. Heavy prismatic weight with an iron eye ring.
8. Three disc-shaped stone weights.

  • Photographed while on display from 22 August 2008 to 11 January 2009 in the exhibition "Die Langobarden. Das Ende der Völkerwanderung" at the Rheinisches LandesMuseum Bonn. On loan from the Moravské zemské muzeum Archeologický ústav, Brno, Czech Republic.

Jahrhundert erneut belegten Langobarden keinen Zweifel.

Grabbeigaben:
1. Zwei zweiseitige Hämmer.
2. Eiserner pyramidenförmiger Amboss.
3. Eiserne Schmiedezange.
4. Stabförmiger Tremolierstichel aus Eisen.
5. Wetzsteine aus Sandstein in unterschiedlichen Größen.
6. Reste einer gleicharmigen Feinwaage aus Bronze.
7. Schweres prismatisches Gewicht mit eiserner Ringöse.
8. Drei scheibenförmige Steingewichte.

  • Exponate in der Ausstellung „Die Langobarden. Das Ende der Völkerwanderung“ vom 22.08.2008-11.01.2009 im Rheinischen LandesMuseum Bonn. Leihgaben vom Moravské zemské muzeum Archeologický ústav, Brünn, Tschechische Republik.
