English: Architectural fragment from San Salvatore in Brescia
This architectural fragment probably belonged to a wall decorated with icons (iconosthasis) in the monastery church of San Salvatore, which was built in the period from 753-760 by the last Lombard king, Desiderius, who came from Brescia. One of his daughters was a wife of Charlemagne. The fragment has a high quality, ornamental decorative band of overlapping sickles arranged alongside one another. The sickles arch upward, their ends are rolled inward, and their surface is decorated by a beaded strip. In addition, a leaf-shaped ornament is included between the inward-pointing volutes.
