Description

I stayed at the Great Northern Hotel. I found it quite pleasant, and enjoyed the full English breakfast, even if the bacon was too greasy. The hotel was at Kings Cross Station, where I arrived from York. Kings Cross Underground station served three lines, including the Piccadilly Line, which I would use to go to Heathrow Airport at the end of my trip.

Great Northern Hotel was built by the Great Northern Railway, which became part of the London and Norh Eastern Railway in the 1923 consolidation, and British Rail after World War II. The hotels were sold off after 1983. Not long after my trip in 1987, I read of plans to tear the Great Northern Hotel down and replace it with a posh hotel. So far, this has not happened.
