Description

Showing stone carving on the former London and Midland Bank at 110 Kirkgate, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The building was designed by William Bakewell (1839-1925) and completed in 1892. All exterior carving is by John Wormald Appleyard.

This mythical creature may be a something like a hippocampus, with the head of a horse, a body scaled like a fish, and lion's feet. It is part of the panel which runs around the inside of the front door arch.
