Summary edit

Description
English: Longshore drift in action, Dungeness The succession of shingle ridges that form the Dungeness peninsula are the result of thousands of years of longshore drift. This is caused by the waves constantly hitting the beach at an oblique angle and rolling along it, moving the shingle as it does so. The combination of an incoming tide and a stiff breeze blowing directly into it off the land produced some spectacular vertical waves and clearly showed the shingle moving along the beach.
