editDescriptionLooking E from Maine Mast Memorial at Arlington Memorial Amphitheater - circa 1915 to 1925.jpg |
English: Looking from atop the USS Maine Mast Memorial due east at the Memorial Amphitheater in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia, in the United States. Not the existence of the Arlington Ridge Road, cutting horizontally across the image (about the same line as the top of the amphitheater). Beyond that, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Experimental Farm can be seen occupying the lowlands between the road and the Potomac River. This section of the old Arlington Estate was turned over to the Department of Agriculture in 1900, and then relinquished to the Department of War in 1940. It was turned over to the cemetery in 1971.
No construction can be seen on the Arlington Memorial Bridge to the far left, which would begin in 1925. |
