| Description |
English: Loricera pilicornis (Fabricius). This is a widely distributed Holarctic species, occurring in Europe as far south as northern Spain and continental Italy, over Asia as far south as Kazakhstan and Sichuan, and in North America as far south as the San Bernardino Mountains in southern California and northern West Virginia. The specific name derives from the Latin pili (hairs) and cornus (horn) in reference to the presence of conspicuous stiff setae on the basal antennomeres of the adults. These setae, oriented in three main directions, act as a trap for the capture of collembolan prey. |
