English: Lost fank. Evidence of the previous use of this land, before c. 1970 when the forest was planted. The sheep have long since gone from here, as has the first generation of trees.
Sitka plantations are often regarded as wildlife free zones, but once a patchwork of different aged trees appears, with cleared areas they become very rich in birdlife. Edges of habitats are always good for biodiversity and this is also true of commercial forests. Just wish that they would use trees you can walk through though. |
