Summary

Description Lot-5279-12: Allied Air Raids in Europe, July 27, 1944. U.S. Bombers Score Hits on Enemy Communications. This B-25 Mitchell bomber is part of a formation which further disrupted German communications by scoring direct hits on a railroad and highway bridge at Pietrasanta, Italy, 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Pisa, on the Italian west coast. Allied forces, having liberated Leghorn, are continuing their pursuit of retreating German forces and July 21, 1944, were only four miles from the seaport of Pisa. This constant pounding by Allied aircraft is effectively disrupting enemy lines of communication, and hindering his withdrawal. U.S. Army Photograph. (2015/10/30).
