Summary edit

Description Lot-6504-1: France’s Crippled Veterans Do “Double Bit.” One of France’s crippled ex-soldiers at work in grain field reaping. Having lost a leg in battle, he takes to farming knowing that he can still do his country great service. His wife, like all French women of today, works with him doing her share in the field. In the rear can be seen what remains of a once-prosperous looking farmhouse, an unhappy memory of the hated German who has been driven from that section of France. This photograph was taken in territory recently recaptured from the Germans. U.S. Food Administration Photograph. Courtesy of the Library of Congress. (2016/07/08).
