Description Lot-9425-9: Ace of Aces. U.S. Navy Lieutenant Edward H. “Butch” O’Hare, USN, pilot of a single seater fighter plane, shot down five Japanese bombers and damaging one other in one day during a United States and Japanese engagement near the Gilbert Islands in the Pacific – a record bag for one day in any war. For his actions, he was promoted and received the Medal of Honor. Of note, on November 26, 1943, while leading a night mission against enemy aircraft in the Pacific, he was shot down an ensuing air battle and lost. The Chicago O’Hare International Airport is named in his honor. Office of War Information. (2015/11/13).
