Description

Lot 11603-1: Persian Corridor – British and American Lend-Lease supplies transferred to the Soviet Union during World War II. Supplies for Russia via Persian Gulf and Trans-Iranian Railway. Allied war supplies are pouring into Russia in ever increasing quantities via Bandar Shahpour (now Bandar-e Emam Khomeyni ) and the Trans-Iranian Railway. Transported across salt marsh and desert to Ahwaz road and rail convoys there join the flow of supplies proceeding up river from Khurramshahr (now Khorramshahr) and Bushiro, all thence continuing northwards to the U.S.S.R. Shown: I.M.S. rolling stock, shipped from England and christened “Churchill’s Reply” about to move off from the marshalling yards at Ahwaz on the journey northward, loaded with supplies for Russia.
