Description Lot 4499-14: Commander Richard E. Byrd’s First Antarctic Expedition, 1928-1930. With the Byrd Expedition in Antarctica. The Fokker monoplane in which Bernt Balchen, Lieutenant June and Professor Gould were forced down in the unknown wastes of Antarctica while they were on a scientific flight. They were later rescued by Commander Byrd, who searched for them in one of the huge tri-motored planes. Bernt Balchen is shown in the photograph with the sled-dog. April 1929.
