Summary edit

Description Lot 9609-31: Royal Navy (British) during the First World War. Royal Navy aircraft carrier, HMS Argus. The hull was a vast hangar and the aero-planes were raised and the flew of the decks. Her masts were hinged as that they could be laid flat on deck, and navigation bridge could be lowered below deck when required. She later served in the Second World War as an accommodation ship and was sold for scrap in 1946. Her smoke was discharged through vents at the stern. The collection was transferred from a British government source in 1920 to the Library of Congress. (9/18/2015).
