Description
English: The Louis Schoepflin House, 111 Dorchester Road, Buffalo, New York, June 2020. Designed by noted architect John H. Coxhead, working here in an eclectic interpretation of the Colonial Revival style rather than his favored Romanesque, the careful symmetry of the front façade features identical dormers set into the side-gabled roof and second-floor bay windows beneath, the latter flanking a central oval window topped by a decorative keystone voussoir. The front entrance and ground-floor portion of the façade is set behind a brick porch. At the time of the house's 1909 construction, its owner, Louis George Schoepflin (1862-1937), was on the verge of leaving his position at the Vienna Baking Company to embark on a new business venture as founder of the short-lived Buffalo Egg-O-Let Company, manufacturer of a cereal- and peanut-based egg substitute. By 1920, when he's recorded as living in a larger house at the corner of West Ferry and Ashland, he had entered the automobile service industry as president and treasurer of the eponymous Louis G. Schoepflin Company. The house remains in private hands today.
