Lourdoueix-Saint-Michel (Indre)


Église fortifiée (XIe-XIIIe-XVe).

La porte d’entrée, entre deux contreforts du pignon, a été restaurée au XVe siècle.

Les contreforts placés aux angles de l’édifice sont attribués eux aussi au XVe siècle. Ces contreforts servent de support à 2 poivrières. Un un chemin de ronde relie les 2 poivrières en passant par une bretêche située au dessus de la porte. .

Une rangée de mâchicoulis permettaient de protéger la façade de l’église.

Placée dans l’axe de l’église, la bretèche est munie de mâchicoulis qui surplombent la porte d’entrée.

Le plus ancien texte mentionnant l'édifice date de 1154. De cette époque subsiste un cordon en dent de scie encastré dans le mur de l'abside actuelle.

L'édifice a été reconstruit en 1445, sous les ordres de l'évèque Pierre de Montbrun de Limoges

Deux chapelles ont été ajoutées de chaque côté de l'église au XVe et au XVIe.
