English: Lower Dam, Hareshaw Burn This dam was built in 1839 to supply water power for a blast furnace at Bellingham to take advantage of local supplies of coal, iron ore and limestone. The project was short lived, and the ironworks closed in 1849.The dam has survived two major floods - in 1911 and 1968. |
