Der er ikke givet nogen forklaring på, hvorfor kvinden snitter i en kæp. Morell opfattede, ifgl. Spengler, heksegruppen for oven til venstre som en satire mod Johan Georg af Sachsen".

OBS: - Von Meyenburg skriver (p.90), at billedet tilhørte Maria Elisabeth fra Dresden, der i 1630 blev gift med Frederik af Gottorp -i kataloget til udstillingen "Cristina, Drotting av Sverige" (1966) foreslås det, at billedet skulle have været med i svenskernes krigsbytte fra Prag og i Cristinas eje, kat. 1 291, p. 514. - Heck følger dette forslag og skriver, at billedet har været hos Rudolf II i Prag i beg. af 1600-tallet, og senere i Christina af Sveriges eje.
