  • Dansk: - Motivet er behandlet i en række billeder af Cranach, det ældste fra ca. 1512-14, og allerede i 1508 i et af hans træsnit (KKS, 26.62). - Allerede i første halvdel af det 15. århundrede anvendtes dette motiv i mellemrhinske egne (se: Von Bode1918). - Motivets tydning fremgår af indskrift på lignende fremstillinger, cf.: Durrieu," La legende du Roi de Mercie" i Monuments Piot XXIV (1920) 149ff
