Description
Italiano: COMUNE MANTOVA

English: MUNICIPALITY OF MANTUA

At number 6 in viale Gorizia, between September 1943 and April 1945, lived a family of Jews from Fiume: Massimiliano Gizelt, his wife Erna Wolfsohn and their children Carlo and Liselotte with their husband Robert Frankl, Luisa Ungar Rampi (1914-1981) Francesco and Rampi (1907-1986) hosted them and hid them in their empty apartment, providing them with their ration cards to buy basic necessities. The mistaken identity, whereby the Gizelts could prove they were the Rampis, saved them from deportation.

The city of Mantua proudly commemorates Luisa Ungar Rampi and Francesco Rampi, Righteous Among the Nations.
