English: Lumsdale Valley Industrial Archaeological Site (Bentley Brook)
583101 : Previous -- (21 of 26) -- Next : 583134 Apart from its natural resources the brook was fed from three reservoirs, of which only one (the lower) now remains. The dam wall of this reservoir can just be seen through the foliage in this photograph. The steep hillside has been formed into a series of levels, with each level housing industrial machinery that made use of the waters power. Between the levels the water of the brook was carried over 583128s to the level below. With man being active in the area for over 400 years it is difficult to tell where his 'improvements' end and natural structures begin. 'The Lumsdale Valley is one of the best examples of a water-powered industrial archaeological site in Great Britain. It is unusual to see such extensive use of water power in such a relatively small area.
