Esta planta es endémica de Cerro Mariquita en Cabo Rojo y está en peligro de extinción. Lyonia truncata var proctorii, es una de las cinco especies de planta en peligro de extinción que se encuentran en Sierra Bermeja, una cadena de colinas en el suroeste de Puerto Rico que va desde Cabo Rojo a Lajas. Las otras cuatro plantas en peligro de extinción en Sierra Bermeja son Eugenia woodburyana, Vernonia proctorii, Aristida chaseae y Arisitida portoricensis. Sierra Bermeja es la cadena de montañas más antigua de todo el Caribe. En Cerro Mariquita es donde se encuentran los únicos 12 individuos de esta especie según el último inventario en el 2009. El hábitat de esta especie es de bosque seco subtropical en una pendiente extremadamente empinada. This plant is an endemic and endangered species of Cerro Mariquita, in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. Cerro Mariquita is part of Sierra Bermeja, the oldest mountain range in the Caribbean and goes from Lajas to Cabo Rojo. Lyonia proctorii var truncata is one of five endangered plant species found in Sierra Bermeja. The other four endangered plants are Eugenia woodburyana, Vernonia proctorii, Aristida chaseae y Arisitida portoricensis. In Cerro Mariquita you can find the only 12 individuals of this species according to the last inventory of 2009. The species' habitat is subtropical dry forest in an extremely steep slope.
