Deutsch: Das Residenzschloss wurde zwischen 1767 und 1787 im Stil des Barocks erbaut. Auftraggeber war Fürstbischof Maximilian Friedrich, Reichsgraf von Königsegg-Rothenfels (oder Rotenfels). Die Pläne zu dieser hochbarocken Residenz entwarf Johann Conrad Schlaun. Errichtet wurde sie aus hellem Baumberger Sandstein für das Gesims und die Pilaster und rotem Backstein für die Mauern und Fassaden. Seit 1954 beherbergt sie die Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität.
English: The Royal Palace was built in 1767-1787 in baroque style. The client was Prince-Bishop Friedrich Maximilian, Count von Koenigsegg-Rothfels (or Rotfels). The plans for this high Baroque residence designed Johann Conrad Schlaun. It was built of bright Baumberger sandstone for the cornice and pilasters and red brick for walls and facades. Since 1954 it houses the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität. |
