Der Forstvermesser und Pädagoge Friedrich W. A. Fröbel (1782-1852) förderte das geometrische Verständnis von Schülern mittels „Erbsen-arbeiten“. Dabei wurden Zahnstocher in Erbsen gesteckt un daraus komplexe geometrische Körper wie Sterne zusammengesetzt. Doch auch mit Holzleim lassen sich die Stäbchen gut verbinden. Solche Modelle dienen noch heute der Veranschaulichung geometrischer Körper.
