Fotografia portretowa wykonana w atelier zakładu fotograficznego "H. Petri" przedstawia łódzkiego pastora Rudolfa Gustawa Gundlacha. Mężczyzna jest ubrany w czarna togę, na szyi, pod którą ma befkę, widać krzyż zawieszony na łańcuchu. Zakład fotograficzny “H. Petri” funkcjonował w kamienicy przy ulicy Piotrkowskiej 46. Jego właścicielem był urodzony w Berlinie Herman Adolf Petri, którego wspólnikiem został Władysław Hauser-Majewski. Zakład powstał na początku XX wieku i funkcjonował do lat 30. XX wieku. Był to jeden z największych i najbardziej reprezentacyjnych zakładów w mieście.
