Description
English: Kula Fairy Chimneys was declared as a Natural Monument by the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks in the Kula district of Manisa and located on the İzmir-Ankara D-300 highway. Kula Fairy Chimneys are also an important “geosite” area within the borders of The Kula European and Global Geopark which is situated in the Aegean Region of Turkey at Western Anatolia, within Manisa Province. The Geopark area covers 300 km2. The Kula Geopark area is the youngest volcanic region of Turkey where the volcanic activity continued up to prehistoric times. The outstanding volcanic structures of Kula Geopark area are well known at least for 2 thousand years. Fairy chimneys, have been formed over thousands of years by the erosion effect of rain and wind in relation with the volcanic activities in the area.
