Description Man's eye dilates after injecting cocaine into his arm prior to shooting up with heroin, Oct. 16, 2015, Syracuse, N.Y. This method of drug use is referred to as speed balling which occurs during the intravenous use of cocaine with heroin or morphine in the same syringe causing an intense rush of euphoria with a high that is supposed to combine the effects of both drugs, while hoping to reduce the negative effects, such as anxiety, hypertension and other common side effects. Recently, Syracuse, N.Y. was statistically ranked number one for poverty and several town hall meetings have been held to come up with ideas on how to resolve the increasing heroin problem sweeping across the city.
