Summary edit

Description
English: The Macquarie Hotel (formerly the Legend Hotel) is a two storey commercial building of painted brickwork (originally face brickwork) with asymmetrical form and "streamlined" detailing. Architectural features include a curved corner typical of the "Inter-War Functionalist" or "International" style. The parapeted front façade, now rendered and painted, features a squat tower element at the southern end. Although painted the original raised brickwork panels are still evident and provide the only ornamental detail. The first floor windows are timber framed, those at the north and south ends featuring the horizontal glazing bars typical of the period. The narrow "hood" strip above the line of the windows wraps around the curved northern end of the building and emphasises the horizontality of the building form in a manner typical of the style.

At street level the front façade has been altered to form the street façade and main entrance to the bar/bistro. The lower floor was modified to incorporate a shop as part of the bar/bistro. Refurbishments to the hotel were undertaken in mid-2008 to comply with new smoking laws.
