Macrocera decorosa Skuse, 1888, Aranda, ACT, 16 December 2010

The Australian National Insect Collection has many matching specimens from within a couple of kilometers of where I photographed this one. Unfortunately the relevant volume of the Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales containing the description of Macrocera decorosa is one of the few ones not yet available at the Biodiversity Heritage Library so I'm going to have to hunt around for a paper copy. All I've been able to find on the species is a volume of the Archives de zoologie expérimentale et générale, which states that this fly is found in Australian caves and also houses.

Note that even the halteres have markings (a dark band).
