Summary
editDescriptionMaen y Bardd burial chamber - geograph.org.uk - 1564705.jpg |
English: Maen y Bardd burial chamber Maen y Bardd means Bard's Stone. This burial chamber dates to about 3500BC, and is adjacent to an ancient track over the Bwlch y Ddeufaen from Anglesey to the Dyffryn Conwy. It consists of a large stone resting on four upright ones, which must have been very advanced technology to get the height of the four exactly right.
Legend has it that a giant's dog took shelter in here and the giant threw a stick at him which landed a few yards away, where there is another stone Ffon yr Gawr (the Giant's Stick). I am sure that the ancients would have placed great significance in the presence of a rainbow whilst we were there. |
