Magma ascent mechanism- channelled ascent and diapirism

Summary

edit
Description
English: This diagram shows the two main types of magma ascent mechanism. (a) Channelled ascent (After Cruden & Weinberg, 2018). Channelled ascent includes various mechanisms including dykes, faults and shears, and ductile fractures. Magma seeps through the fractures and rise to upper crustal layers. (b) Diapirism (After Paterson et al., 2011). Diapirs are volumes of magma which are buoyant which can bring magma blobs to higher level.
